Living Right Is Hard

Good-full Morning to you. How’s the lockdown? I believe it’s receding in Lagos, as well as in most states and most countries all over the world. Guess it’s receding where ever you are too. Things are getting back to normal. Fantastic.

Looking at today’s topic, it looks “controversial” don’t worry, just be patient and get to the end to see my point.

Will power aka determination is a wonderful thing. You can do so so many things with will power/determination;

  • Quit smoking
  • Quit Drinking
  • Become the best student
  • Become the best worker
  • Become rich
  • Become the best practioner in a career field etc

But, you can’t use will power to live and think right consistently. Even Jesus didn’t. Jesus lived right and could do all things through an extraterrestrial power source (God’s spirit) who infuses inner strength (power) in you.

  • Forgiving “anything” easily
  • Humility towards all.
  • Thinking positively all the time
  • Having self control to do the right thing all the time.
  • Not feeling Hurt when someone does something to you.
  • Have inner peace always, and good success (feeling of true fulfilment and satisfaction)

These things can’t be done by our willpower “consistently”. They certainly can’t.

I’m currently reading Battlefield of the mind by Joyce Meyer, and truly, my mind has been a battlefield. I found out that our actions are direct results of our (concious and subconscious) mind. Subconscious in the sense that negative speech and ideas from the social media, TV, negative people etc get into our hearts and shapen our thought patterns when we don’t filter it out.

From the bible, Ephesians 6 Vs 11-12 says;

11 – Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies and tricks of the Devil.

12 – For we are not fighting against people made of flesh and blood, but against the evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against those mighty powers of darkness who rule this world, and against wicked spirits in the heavenly realms.

When we Nigerians, Africans read this passage we usually think it’s mainly talking about witchcraft and demons. Yes that’s true too, but not entirely. Devil’s main target is our mind.

Put on the armour (weapon inclusive) to fight against the “tricks”. Tricks in the greek text translates to “methodeia” meaning trickery or to lie in wait. Now what are these tricks? Evil and negative thought patterns; I can’t succeed, I won’t make it, I’m unlovable, I can never have self control, I can never be humble, I can’t forgive people, I can’t get the job done, I can’t get pregnant, I’ll be poor for life, my dad (who the bread winner) is dead, i can’t be comforted, how would we survive? etc. these are negative thought patterns. These are the strategies and tricks (wiles) of Satan.

2Cor.10.4 – We use God’s mighty weapons, not mere worldly weapons, to knock down the Devil’s strongholds.

Through careful strategy and cunning deceit, Satan attempts to set up “strongholds” in our mind. Stronghold is an area in which we are held in bondage (in prison) due to a certain way of thinking (negative thinking).

As a man thinketh so is he…

For a believer, right thinking is a vital necessity. Vital necessity is something we can’t live without. Eg heartbeat.

Romans 8 Vs 5; talks about the mind of the spirit Vs the mind of the flesh. When we think fleshly, wrong negative thoughts we can’t walk in the spirit.

Your life won’t get straightened out until your mind does. This is an area of vital necessity.

What are these weapons we can use to fight the “tricks” of the enemy? Our weapons are the word, praise and prayer. Satan will agressively fight the renewal of your mind so it’s vital you don’t give up when you fall back to the former (negative and bad) thinking, you press on, continue to pray and study in this area until victory comes.

You can’t live right or overcome these “abnormal” situations – negative thinking, having a wandering mind etc) by determination alone, lean on the holyspirit, our helper our convict, our guide. Just as my physical life depends on my vital signs (pulse, heart beat etc), my spiritual life depends on my fellowship (regular, quality time) with God. Victorious living depends on the right thinking, carefully choose your thoughts.

Don’t give up

Know that it’s a process. Little by little. It won’t happen overnight. When you fall (getting back into negative thoughts) get back up dust your self and “keep on keeping on”.You will need to practice for a while. Breaking old habits and forming new ones always takes time, but it is worth it in the
end.

Here’s a Recommended exercise from Joyce Meyer; Think and speak aloud right thoughts (especially when tempted not to)
Be patient with yourself.

Abraham was positive in a negative situation. Rom 4 Vs 18 – 20. He considered his impotence yet NO unbelief made him waver concerning the promise of God. God promised Abraham he’d have a son when we was 75 years, 25 yrs later, he still didn’t have a child, yet he believed he will, even despite his old age and impotence. God counted this “positive thinking” as righteousness.

No human being can do what Abraham did with willpower. No human being. It can only be the spirit of God in him that helped him persevere.

Also about being offended and angered, here’s what Andrew wommack has to say;

Dead people never feel a thing! You can do all kinds of mean things to a corpse without any response. Kick it, spit on it, slap it, do whatever, but it won’t retaliate. Why? Because it’s dead!
According to the Bible, you are supposed to be
dead (Rom. 6:8 and 2 Tim. 2:11). Why, then, are you hurt so easily when someone says or does something to you? Why do you have so many problems in your relationships? Plain and simple
—pride is still alive!

One of my favourite verses Romans 12 Vs 2 says;

Rom.12.2 – Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will know what God wants you to do, and you will know how good and pleasing and perfect his will really is.

Emphasis on “letting God change the way you think”. Your mind is everything. A wise king once said “As a man thinketh so is he…”

Conclusively, Christianity is hard WITHOUT the holyspirit. To rephrase the blog title “LIVING RIGHT IS HARD WITHOUT THE HOLYSPIRIT”

Success is hard without thinking positively and thinking right.

Thinking positively and right ‘always’ requires an extraterrestrial source, the holyspirit.

Your life won’t get straightened out until your mind does. This is an area of vital necessity.

Keep your tongue (mind) from evil to see good days. 1 Pet. 3 Vs 10. Think and Speak out positive things at all times.

Say this aloud; God change the way I think, to the way I’m meant to think. Amen

Trust God, and allow him change you. Think positive. Think right.

Au revoir ✌🏽
